Win Poker - How to Play Texas Holdem

When you have seen poker on TELEVISION and wished to play, but didn't know where to start, I'm here to simply help. You've probably seen the guys and ladies wearing sunglasses, betting large amounts of chips using what seemed to be nothing. It looked pretty exciting didn't it? Well, there's a lot to understand about poker. There are many different types of poker, betting structures, tournaments verse cash games, it goes on and on. But first things first. How exactly to play. If you've already played hold em, future articles are for you. This really is for first-time players. Here we go…

Okay, as I said there are several different forms of poker. This article will be discussing no limit texas hold'em cash games. NL hold'em can be played heads up (two players) or with up to eleven players. Most tables are six or ten handed. In a casino or non home game a professional dealer deals every hand and is compensated by tips from a person when he wins a hand. If the game begins the dealer either starts the dealer button in the one seat (immediately to the dealers left) or high cards for it. It then moves one seat left after each hand. The benefit of getting the dealer button is you're able to act last. So you get to see what everybody else does before you have to make a decision. (The big blind (BB) goes last pre flop and button other hand, but we'll arrive at that)

The dealer deals to the individual immediately to the buttons left first and deals each person two cards. The individual left of the button must create a chip for the little blind (SB), the person to his left must released chips for the BB. The blinds are to start out the action and the size depends on the limit of the game. Limits are as small as 2 cents/4 cents (when playing on line) up to any amount. The most popular is $1/$2 and $2/$5. For right now we will assume we are playing 1-2 no limit. Therefore the SB puts out $1 the BB creates $2.

Once the two cards are dealt the person on the left of the BB goes first. She can fold, call the $2 or raise any amount from $2 ($4 bet) or maybe more. Then the next and so on completely around till the BB acts. Each individual can fold, call or raise. A raise must certanly be at least in the total amount of the last raise. So if player A raises to $4, then player B can make it $6 or maybe more to play. If player A helps it be $10 player B must make it at least $18 if he really wants to re raise.

After the last person acts the dealer burns one card after which puts out three cards, called the flop. Each person tries to make the most readily useful hand with five cards, using one, both or neither of their cards, (hole cards) and the cards on the board. The action starts with the player to the left of the button. He can check (pass his action) or bet. His minimum bet is $2 with no maximum bet. The betting then goes around until the last person acts. (The button if he is still in) If a player bets the next person can fold, call or raise.

When the action is complete, the dealer burns a card and creates one card, the turn. Action repeats the same as it did post flop. Following the action is complete the dealer burns a card and puts down the last card, the river. After all action is complete the player with the best five card hand using any combination of the cards on the board and his hole cards wins the pot.

Hope that helps you understand no limit hold'em. No limit hold em is played in casinos across the country and the world. Learning how to play poker is straightforward. Learning poker concepts and strategies takes much more time and commitment. There are many resources available.
